5 Assignments and 5 Expectations for SCATTER

We were blessed to have Jason Vaden charge our Youth Missions Teams during our SCATTER training session. Below is an outline of the message he gave. We will try to post the entire message on our site in the near future.

5 Assignments and 5 Expectations for Summer Missions
Jason Vaden
1 Peter 4:7-11 (focus on verse 11)

Assignments:
1) Oxygenate your souls with the glory/gospel of God: Let the gospel and God’s strength saturate you.
2) Prepare to enter the work as a servant learner: Don’t assume you know what the culture needs. Pray for wisdom to be flexible.
3) Aim at relational deposits: Look for ways to interact with unbelievers
4) View unbelievers as God’s gift to you: You need the opportunity to love people who are not like you.
5) Reflect on the reality of authentic love: Authentic love overcomes barriers. Pray that God would give you the desire to love unbelievers. “Love builds trust, and trust leads to opportunity” – John Glass.

Expectations:
1) Expect to be disrespected
2) Expect to see/experience inappropriate sexual innuendo or advancement
3) Expect to hear foul language
4) Expect short attention spans: Much patience is needed and avoid lulls to avoid disarray
5) Expect sincere affection from kids

Summary: If God is going to be glorified then do something that you can only do in God’s strength!

In Christ Alone,
George
